We just got back from spending 6 days in Kauai. When we Island, we usually like to stay with friends or at least limit the lodging and transportation budget enough so that we can enjoy more of the hiking, snorkeling, sightseeing stuff that each Hawaiian Island has to offer. This time we did it a little different, though. We rented a compact for the entire time we were on Kauai and actually stayed that Kauai Marriott Resort. Lemme’ tell you, #boom–it was an awesome week. We flew in on a Sunday and stayed until Saturday.
The Marriott Resort Kauai
One of the nicer hotels I’ve stayed at when on vacation. As mentioned, I usually don’t like to splurge on lodging and hotels so my experience at resort/luxury hotels is limited. The Kauai Marriott had it all, though. Hawaii’s largest pool, beautiful grounds and gardens, beach and ocean view rooms that are SOOO close, and great dining. I was very happy with that experience. The food and atmosphere at Duke’s and Il Portofino was nothing short of great. The staff was fun and motivated. The guests were a more mature group of couples but there were plenty of families as well.
Zip Lining Kauai
I had never gone zip lining before and I was a little nervous about…I don’t really like heights. Speed is fine, heights not so much. Anyway, the views were majestic and after my first zip line…I was good to go for the rest of the day. We opted to go with Princeville Ranch Adventures. The guides were safe, entertaining, and pretty damn awesome. It was a great time.
We opted for SNUBA this time and we used SNUBA of Kauai as our tour guide. Here’s the link to their Facebook page and our picture from the site. Our guide was great. The snorkeling was pretty good and being able to breathe under water for the first time was pretty great, too. I will say this, though: You would be better if you were to get paired with another, experience snorkel couple or group. It was kind of a bummer that we needed to stop a few times in order for everyone to keep up.
We went on an early morning, half a day fishing charter out of Nawiliwili Harbor with Captain Jeff Steiner (Telephone 808-635-9456). Captain Steiner was great and a very experienced. It was choppy that day but I felt safe the whole time with Capt. Jeff. Between the 2 of us, Lizzy and I were able to catch 5 yellow fin tuna (ahi) and 5 skipjack tuna. It was a lot of fun and we had fresh ahi poke that night!
Na Pali Coast Raft and Snorkel Tour
We chose Captain Andy’s for the rafting tour along the Na Pali Coast that included lots of dolphins, sea caves, waves, beach landing, nature/educational hike, lunch and snorkeling. I highly recommend this tour! I wrote a lot more about here.
